About the Artist

Shull Memorial award winner 2019

Pete Pefley is a native of Chambersburg, Pa. He was born March 14, 1964, to Paul and Nancy Pefley. Pete graduated from the Chambersburg Area Senior High School in 1982. He started drawing at an early age, but in the mid 80's he began experimenting in Oil Painting after watching "Bob Ross" on the Public Broadcast Service channel.  Pete  sold quite a few paintings before switching to acrylic paints. The early 2000's brought his painting to an end due to issues with his marriage at the time, but he continued to pursue other hobbies at that time including his love of local history- especially railroad history.

On August 5, 2006 Pete married his best friend and soulmate, Carole Denise Welsh of York, PA. who at first thought that his paintings were actually photographs.

Pete's parents and Carole both urged him to resume painting but it was not until he lost his job as a Bus Aide that he did. This was due to issues arising from his need to be off on certain occasions to get injections in both eyes to prevent blindness due to macular edema. At this time Carole had to remind him that when God closes one door, he will open another one. So at this time Pete resumed his painting with emphasis on local history and creating images of years gone-by.

Inspiration for all of Pete's endeavors is his love of God who gave him his abilities, his love of his loving, supportive wife and also his dearly departed parents.

Pete enjoys interacting with the public and can be seen painting at Norland  McDonalds or out on the street, so if you see him dont be afraid to stop and say Hello!
